The Seat Charts tool in Indy Admin allows you to create visual seating plans for your cinema’s auditoriums—essential for reserved seating. This is what customers see when selecting seats online or at the box office.

Seat charts can include different seating types, layouts, pricing zones, accessibility options, and custom confirmation prompts.

🎟️ Where to Find It

Settings

→ Site → Seat Charts

⚙️ When to Use Seat Charts

You only need to set up seat charts if:

Your site uses reserved seating

Customers choose their seats online or at POS

🧱 Building a Seat Chart

🆕 Create a Seat Chart

Set chart name

Choose primary seat type (e.g. Regular Seat, Recliner Seat)

Set rows and columns (grid layout)

Row A defaults to the front of the screen (can reverse to start at back)

Column order can be reversed (right-to-left)

➕ Layout Customisation

Add vertical aisles (e.g. after Column 6)

Add horizontal aisles (e.g. after Row D)

Layout reflects the physical structure of your auditorium

🪑 Seat Types Available

Choose seat types per seat or section:

Regular Seat

Recliner Seat

Wheelchair

Wheelchair Companion

Couch (Left, Centre, Right, Corners, Verticals)

Table (Left, Centre, Right)

Aisle (creates a visual space with no seat)

💡 Tip: Couches need at least Left & Right to function correctly. Use Centre for 3-person couches.

🧩 Behaviour Settings (Booking Rules)

Allow seat gaps: Let customers leave more than 2 seats between groups

Allow orphan seats: Allow a single seat to be left at the end of a row

Allow partial couch sale: Enable splitting a couch between strangers

(🛑 Usually turned off for privacy)

🧍 Social Distancing Settings

(Optional, legacy from COVID)

Add spacing around selected seats (horizontal, front, back, corners)

🎛 Seat Overrides

You can click or drag-select seats to apply custom settings.

Override Options:

Seat Type (any of the types listed above)

Availability:

Always available

Unavailable (Broken, House, Reserved)

Marathon seat (held for long events/double bills)

Area Category (for differential pricing)

Custom seat type name (e.g. “Love Seat”) + custom color

Held Seat Section Name (e.g. “Press”, “Access”, “Staff”)

Require Confirmation:

Display message during checkout

Ideal for wheelchair companion seats

🔢 Seat Naming & Manual Adjustments

Seat names default to sequential numbers (1, 2, 3…)

To use custom numbering (e.g. skip 13), you must rename seats manually

You must also manually name seats if gaps aren’t part of row/column structure

🪑 Area Categories (for Tiered Pricing)

Access via:

Seat Chart Area Categories

Create categories like “Standard”, “Luxury”, “Rear Sofas”

Assign each seat to a category

Link ticket types to categories to apply the correct price automatically

Used when multiple pricing tiers exist in a single auditorium

🧠 Pro Tip

Always assign area categories if you charge different prices for different seats. This ensures pricing is applied accurately at checkout.
