The Movie Terms section in Indy Admin is where you define the financial agreement between your cinema and a filmโ€™s distributorโ€”such as how much of the gross box office is paid back to the studio. This data is critical for generating accurate box office reports and settlements.

๐ŸŽฌ Where to Find It

There are two ways to access Movie Terms:

  1. Via Studio Reporting:

Operations โ†’ Studio Reporting โ†’ Movie Terms

  2. Via the Movies tab:

Operations โ†’ Programming โ†’ Movies โ†’ [select movie] โ†’ Terms

๐Ÿ“‘ What Movie Terms Do

  • Define rental agreements between your cinema and film distributors

  • Used in calculating box office reports

  • Include percentage splits, flat fees, minimum guarantees, and deposits

  • Can be standard (default) or format-specific (e.g. IMAX, 3D)

Each movie term shows:

  • Movie name and abbreviation

  • Release date & first showing date

  • Assigned studio

  • Week-by-week percentage split (editable)

  • Whether the term is set at site level or library level (for chains)

โœ๏ธ Editing a Movie Term

Click Edit to update:

  • Name & abbreviation

  • Date of first showing (manually or automatically set)

  • Box office play week start date

    • E.g. Friday in UK, Thursday in Australia

  • Extend the play week for early screenings or previews

๐ŸŽฏ Distribution Terms

Under the Terms section:

  • Add percentage splits by week (e.g. 55% โ†’ 50% โ†’ โ€ฆ โ†’ 25%)

  • Add a flat fee, minimum guarantee, or deposit if applicable

  • Add internal notes for tracking context

๐ŸŽž๏ธ Format-Specific Terms

To add terms for special formats (e.g. IMAX, 3D):

  1. Duplicate the default movie term

  2. Assign the appropriate showing badge

  3. Set unique terms for that format

๐Ÿ“Œ Pro Tip: The system will automatically apply the correct term based on the showing badge (e.g. standard vs IMAX).

๐Ÿ“Š Linked Reports and Settlements

Each movie term also shows:

  • Related Box Office Reports (for that movie and play week)

  • Box Office Settlements (covered in a separate guide)

๐Ÿง  Why It Matters

Keeping Movie Terms accurate ensures:

  • Your financial reporting to distributors is correct

  • Settlements are aligned with agreements

  • Your internal film booking and finance teams are always in sync
